Our Funded Programmes
Art Buds in Muirhouse is a programme of free outdoor creative learning for early years and school-age children in Muirhouse, North Edinburgh, funded by Creative Scotland and in partnership with North Edinburgh Arts. Muirhouse is Rank 1 area on the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation.
The programme has been running since May 2021, and offers participants the chance to attend free weekly term-time classes and summer camps, facilitated by experienced artist educators. Over the course of this project we have so far engaged with over 100 children. We'd like to thank our funders for facilitating the continuation of this vital work.
Our sessions for children aged 4-12 provide participants with free outdoor clothing and healthy snacks and lunches, as well as vital time exploring artistic process and connecting with local natural spaces. Removing barriers to participation is key to ensuring that children and families benefit fully.
If you live in the Muirhouse area (postcodes, EH4 4, EH4 5, EH5 1, EH5 2), you can apply for a place in Art Buds in Muirhouse by calling North Edinburgh Arts directly on 0131 315 2151, emailing: admin@northedinburgharts.co.uk or visiting https://northedinburgharts.co.uk/
Following the success of our Art Buds in Muirhouse, we will be extending this project to more areas of need in and around Edinburgh. Watch this space...

Art Buds Wins Creative Scotland Award
In February 2021, Art Buds founder, Sara Gough, received a Youth Access Fund award to further our work promoting access to the Arts for young people. The award has allowed us to develop and deliver our community outreach project, Art Buds in Muirhouse.
This project will enable an estimated 100 children to explore art-making in nature with our experienced Artist Educators. A Mentorship programme, offering paid mentorship opportunities to four young people in the Muirhouse area, will run alongside our free programme of creative facilitation for children.
Art Buds would like to thank Creative Scotland and our partner North Edinburgh Arts for their support.
Start-It! Award for Social Entrepreneurs
We are delighted to announce that in January 2021 Art Buds Collective became the proud recipient of a Start-It! award from Firstport. This award provides start-up funding for business ideas that address a social, environmental, and/or community issue.
Firstport funding means we can transform the lives of more young people through art making in nature and remove many of the barriers to participation that exist for so many children. A huge thank you to Firstport for having faith in us and trusting us to ‘start something good’!
